“As long as the lamp burns, someone comes back.” We all kept that line for someone.
A theory we keep coming back to, every time we get together.
Mara never heard the dead. The voices under the ice were her. Her own memories, rising to the surface every time the sea cracked. Watch the four seasons again with that in mind: no voice ever tells her something she didn't already know. Her mother talks about the song she used to sing to her. Tobias reminds her of what he taught her. Even Ilyan, when she thinks he's dead, repeats something he said as a child.
The show never admits it, but it shows it in every episode. Mara isn't listening to the dead. She's refusing to let them go.
So the last crossing is not a sacrifice. When she walks out onto the melting sea, she isn't going to join the voices. She finally stops listening to them. It's the first time in the whole show that she moves forward without looking back.
Tell me I'm wrong. That is the whole point.

Visible because you expressed yourself here.
Because he knew no one else would relight the lamp. He tells Mara in the very first episode, and none of us saw it coming.
I think he was tired. Not heroic, just tired. He had lost his wife under the ice, and he went to join her.
I watched it with my dad. He didn't say anything, he got up and went to the kitchen. I heard him crying.
Because down there, no one was waiting for him anymore. Up there, at least, the lamp needed him.
I paused when he climbs back up the stairs. I waited ten minutes before pressing play. I knew.
That is everyone, for now.
